Hello and welcome on mathieu persan’s website !
Mathieu persan, it’s me. I was born in 1978, I live in Paris France and I write songs.
After a first LP (”does it make you feel sad ?”) acclaimed by french music webzines and newspapers (Magic, Les Inrockuptibles), I signed with a french independant record label. I recorded a new album, “There’s a monster in every head” which was composed of new versions of some songs from my previous record and some completly new material. Because the budget was tight, I recorded lots of parts at home and we went to the studio when it was absolutely necessary (for drums, bass, and mixing process). The songs have been mixed by Stéphane “ALF” Briat (AIR, Phoenix), Denis Cazajeux (Overhead, Tanger) and Yann Arnaud (Syd Matters, Sébastien Schuller). In January 2007, the record was almost complete. It took a lot of time because, in the real life (you know, the one with bills, rents and poor reality), I have a full time job in a bank… So I do not have all the time I want/need to create, record and play my music.So everything was fine, the record was great (it was the first time I worked with worldclass engineers and gears… wow !) but my record label suddenly closed. Not enough money. They were nice enough to give me back all the rights on my songs but I felt a little lonely in my shoes.
For every musician, doing his first record is something very special. For me, it was a kind of dream that was about to come true when all suddenly stopped. It was quiet depressing… I tought of finding a new record label but I prefered to keep my time and energy to do what I love the most : writing songs (instead of losing months in a new record deal process).
So, here we are now. I have decided to be completely independant and to release my music via my website. It’s not the release of my dreams (I would have prefer that you discover my music in a beautiful CD box with beautiful lyrics and pictures book) but my priority is now to make my music available to everyone. Like Neil Hannon said in one of his songs “a song is not a song until it’s listened to”.
Without any record label or management to promote my music, I know this website is like a bottle in the huge internet sea… But anyway, I just want to find people who like my music and discuss with them. Right now, you can listen and download for free all of the songs on this website.
So I hope you will like my songs. If so, don’t hesitate to spread the world around you !
